SOUTHERN PERU
TAMBOPATA AND CUSCO
01. Day
Arrival in Lima and transferred to the Hotel. Overnight Hotel Faraona
02. Day
Explore the coast south of Lima in search of the Inca Tern, Humboldt Penguin, Peruvian Booby, Many-colored Rush-Tyrant, Peruvian Thick-Knee, Great Grebe and others. Overnight Hotel Faraona
03. Day
We will fly to the city of Cusco.
Once in Cusco, we will immediately head to the Huacarpay wetlands where we will look for several species of birds like the endemic Bearded Mountaineer and Rusty-fronted Canastero, but also other birds like Andean Negrito, Yellow-winged Blackbird, Cinereous Harrier, Andean Flicker, Andean Gull, Andean Lapwing, Giant Hummingbird, Green-tailed Trainbearer, White-browed Chat-Tyrant, Band-tailed Seedeater, Streak-throated Thornbird, Puna Teal, Speckle Teal, Yellow-billed Pintail, Plumbeous Rail, and Many-colored Rush-Tyrant.

04. Day
We will explore the famous Malaga mountain pass above the mountains of Ollantaytambo.
We will look for the endemics Creamy-crested Canastero, Chestnut-breasted Mountain-Finch, White-tufted Sunbeam and also Peruvian Sierra-Finch, Andean Condor, Andean Goose, Andean Parakeet, the endemic Junin Canastero, and the specialists of the Polylepis woodlands like Ash-breasted Tit-Tyrant, White-browed Tit-Spinetail, Giant Conebill, Tit-like Dacnis, Puna Thisteltail, Rufous Antpitta and the endangered Royal Cinclodes.

05. Day
Today we will explore the lowest parts of the pass where we shall look for the Undulated Antpitta, Grass-green Tanager, Scarlet-bellied Mountain-Tanager, Hooded Mountain-Tanager, Sword-billed Hummingbird, the endemic Parodis Hemispingus and Unstreaked Tit-Tyrant.
We will try also for the endemic Inca Wren. Overnight Ollantaytambo
06. Day
Today we will take the train to the village of Aguas Calientes, which is the gateway of the Machupicchu ruins. We will look for the endemic Inca Wren, the endemic Green-and-white Hummingbird, and the endemic Masked Fruiteater.
Other birds include Torrent Duck, Fasciated Tiger-Heron, White-capped Dipper, Slaty Tanager, Fawn-breasted Tanager, Andean Cock-of-the-Rock, Ocellated Piculet, Chestnut-capped Brush-Finch, Highland Motmot, Streaked Xenops, Variable Antshrike, Azara’s Spinetail, Saffron-crowned Tanager, Gould’s Inca, Green Hermit, Capped Conebill, Blue-necked Tanager, Barred Becard and others.

07. Day
After a last morning birding around Machupicchu, we will take our train back to Ollantaytambo and then a car back to Cusco.

08. Day
Flight to the Puerto Maldonado town where you will be met by your guide, and transferred to the Explorers-Inn lodge, which will be our base for the next days.

09. Day
We will spend the next days birding around the lodge grounds looking for species like: Undulated Tinamou, Anhinga, Rufescent Tiger-Heron, Hoatzin, Sungrebe, Green Ibis, Swallow-tailed Kite, Slate-colored Hawk, King Vulture, Starred Wood-Quail, Tawny-belllied Screech-Owl, Amazonian Pygmy-Owl and Spectacled Owl, Lineated, Crimson-crested, Rufous-headed, Red-necked and Cream-colored Woodpeckers, Blue-crowned, Collared, Violaceous, White-tailed and Black-tailed Trogons, Pavonine Quetzal, Golden-collared Toucanet, White-throated (Cuvier’s) Toucan, Chestnut-eared Aracari, Lettered Aracari, Band-tailed, Fiery-capped and Round-tailed Manakins, Musician Wren, Scaly-breasted (Nightingale) Wren, Red-billed Scythebill, White-browed Antbird, Black-faced Antbird, Plumbeous Antbird, Goeldi’s Antbird, Black-faced Annthrush, Rufous-capped Annthrush and many more.
