Galapagos, Andes and Amazon of Ecuador Guides: TBA
We will first explore the weird (to put it mildly) land that so radically influenced Darwin’s view of the world – the famed Galapagos Islands, before entering some of the world’s richest bird and wildlife habitats. Mainland Ecuador, in fact, is arguably the most bird-rich country (for its size) on the entire planet.
Birding the cloud forest on either side of the earth’s second highest mountain range yields tons of spectacular birds including Ecuadorian specials such as Toucan Barbet, Black-breasted Puffleg, Plate-billed Mountain-Toucan, Andean Cock-of-the-Rock (including a particularly red variant) and a whole host of others.
We will stop at a reserve where a local feeds antpittas – here in fact there are also 20 species of hummingbird, Dark-backed Woodquail, etc. We will also stop at the highest point of the Andes for, among others, Andean Condor. Finally, we will bird the world’s richest bird habitat, the Amazonian lowlands. For those wanting to join just part of this trip, you can join either the Galapagos leg or the mainland leg.
