Oulu, where we start the tour, is a famous area for breeding owls such as GREAT GRAY, TENGLMAN’S, URAL, Eurasian Pygmy, Short-eared and Eurasian Eagle Owls. Most years, Northern Hawk Owl and Long-eared Owl also put in an appearance. We hope to see most of these owls at close range, while also finding other forest species such as Black Grouse, Capercaillie, Black Woodpecker and Three-toed Woodpecker.

During this 1-week tour, we will also visit Finland’s most important wetland, the Bay of Liminka, where lots of shorebirds will be seen, and Eurasian Bittern boom. We might also find exciting migrants such as cranes, Whooper Swans and Pallid Harrier. Stops along the coast generate sea ducks and divers (loons).

We then continue on through beautiful northern European scenery to Kuusamo near the Russian border, where we hope to find eastern species in the expansive taiga forests – Red- flanked Bluetail, Rustic Bunting, Two-barred Crossbill, Pine Grosbeak, Siberian Jay, Siberian Tit, Black and Three-toed Woodpecker, Black Grouse, Willow Grouse, Hazel Hen, Capercaillie, Red-necked Grebe and Little Gull all breed here. We will also visit the pristine Oulanka National Park
