On our first 3-week leg of the trip, we shall visit Halmahera and West Papua. We will visit the off islands of Kofiau, Biak and Numfor in search of their endemic Paradise Kingfishers.

Another island is the unspoilt paradise of Waigeo where we shall stay in a basic but comfortable tented camp - this is very close to a known lek of Wilson’s Bird of Paradise, which we shall watch as they display from specially built hides. We will also visit the highlands of the Arfak Mountains where again we shall be staying in a basic campsite, which allows us to be close to display grounds of Western Parotia. We will continue into the lowlands in search for the mega Shovel-billed Kingfisher.

The second 3-week section will take us to Papua New Guinea where we shall be staying in good accommodations each night. Whilst in PNG we can expect to see 23 species of BoP and 14 species of Kingfisher. Again we visit highlands, which have a rich diversity of BoP’s and some excellent photographic opportunities will be available at Mount Hagen ’s bird table and if our luck is good the male Crested Bird of Paradise will pose for its photo.

The last 3-week leg will take us into some seldom-birded areas like the Huon peninsular, where we will search for rarely seen birds like Yellow-breasted Bird of Paradise. We will then fly to New Britain and Manus - home to many more island endemics and the brilliant Superb Pitta.

This tour can also be divided into three 3-week parts if you have limited time
