14-Day Uganda Birding Tour

Tour Information

Day 1: Arrive at Entebbe International Airport, transfer to your Hotel overnight Windsor L. Victoria Hotel or Flight Motel Entebbe.

Day 2 : Leave Entebbe early in the morning for Mabamba swamp birding en route, we have a chance to see a variety of weavers on the way, Black headed Oriole, Black Bishop, and many others, in Mabamba swamp we shall take a hand paddled boat in the swamp in search for the majestic Shoebill, here we have a chance to see a variety of water birds like the Purple swampen, Black Crake, Purple Heron, squacco Herons, Malachite King fisher to mention but a few after the swamp we shall transfer to L. Mburo birding enroute, arrive for an evening game drive as you enter park where we have a chance to see a variety of birds. Overnight Mantana or Rwonyo tented camp.

 Day 3: Morning birding and mammal watching, bird the grassland for the Brown-chested Plover (this is there between June and December), Red-faced Barbet, Tabora Cisticola and many other acacia associated birds here we shall have the chance to see the Zebra, Eland, Topis, Impalas and some other game, at around ten in the morning, go for a boat ride in search for the African Finfoot then transfer to Bwindi drive straight to Ruhizha overnight Ruhizha Institute guest house (this accommodation is basic).

Day 4: Morning trek to Mubwindi Swamp for African Green-broadbill, Grauer’s Rush Warbler, Caruthers’s Cisticola, Purple-breasted, Blue-headed and Regal Sunbirds, after the afternoon we will bird around the camp for Dusky Twinspot, Luhder’s Bushshrike, Rwenzori Batis to mention but a few. Overnight at Institute Guest House.

 Day 5: Transfer to Buhoma to bird the “Neck” en route for Cassin’s Hawk Eagle, Black Bee-eaters, Bronze-napped Pigeon, Many Coloured Bush-shrike Cassin grey flycatcher and a variety of Albertine rift endemics. Overnight at Gorilla Resort or Bwindi View Camp.

 Day 6: Morning birding Buhoma main trail for the Handsome Francolin, Rufous-chested Fluff tail, Olive-Long-tailed Cuckoo, Red-chested Owlet, Neumann’s Warbler, Pale-breasted Illadopsis, White-tailed Flycatcher, and many others followed by an evening farm walk for the Bat Hawk in case we missed it the first day. Overnight Gorilla Resort or Bwindi View Camp.

 Day 7: An early morning trek into the forest with packed lunch led by experienced trackers will lead us to a family of Mountain Gorillas. These massive primates are extremely rare believed to be only 700 remaining; you will be within some meters of the family and be privileged to spend some time amongst them returning to your accommodation for overnight.

 Day 8: Drive to Queen Elizabeth National park birding enroute, via Ishasha sector of the park for a game drive in search for tree climbing Lions and birding for a variety of savanna birds and a number of raptors overnight Mweya safari lodge or Institute of ecology guest house/hostel.

 Day 9: Morning game drive through the Kasenyi track and Kob mating grounds in search for savanna birds like the Temminck’s Courser, Martial Eagle, Rupell’s Griffon Vulture e.t.c., recently the Secretary bird was seen here, mammals such as Lions, Elephants, Buffalo, Hyena, Giant Forest Hogs, and other game. We will take an afternoon boat ride on Kazinga Channel believed to host the largest concentration of Hippos in Africa, a variety of migrant birds and Crocodiles. Overnight Mweya Safari lodge or Institute of Ecology Guest House/Hostel.

 Day 10: Drive to Fort portal birding enroute, afternoon birding in the forest west of Fort portal for Joyful Greenbul, Cassin’s grey flycatcher, African Black Duck, Four coloured Bush shrike and a variety of forest birds or bird the Crater area for Little Grebe, Great Crested Grebe, Giant Kingfisher, Yellow bellied Waxbill to mention but a few. Overnight Primate lodge Kibaale tents or Bandas.

Day 11: After an early morning breakfast, we will drive to Kibaale National Park reported to be home to the greatest variety and highest concentration of primates in the world. Thirteen (13) different species have been identified here. We shall go for Chimp viewing and a variety of other primates e.g. the Grey-cheeked Mangabeys, Vervet, L’Hoerst and Red tailed Monkeys, Olive Baboons, Red, Black and white Colobus Monkeys here we have a chance for birding the Forest for the green-breasted Pitta, Western bronze-napped Pigeon, Many-coloured Bush shrike to mention but a few, afternoon Swamp walk in Bigodi wetland for the Papyrus endemics and a variety of primates. Overnight Primate lodge tents or Bandas (for the budget option).

 Day 12: After breakfast, we will drive to Murchison Falls National Park via the escarpment, birding here for Foxy Cisticola, Cliff chats, Western Violet-backed Sunbird and a variety of birds. Overnight Nile Safari Camp or Red Chilli Rest Camp.

 Day 13: Morning cross with a ferry for a game drive to the Delta for the Shoebill stork and other water birds, animals such as Lions, Leopards, Giraffes, Oribis, Hartebeests, Elephants, to mention but a few and bird’s like the Carmine bee Eaters, Abyssinian ground Hornbills and many other birds, we will take an afternoon boat ride to the bottom of the Falls, a magical trip through some beautiful scenery. The whole of the 50 meters wide Nile River is forced into a gap only 7 meters wide – the immense force of the water and the views of the falls are awe inspiring here we shall see a variety water birds, schools of Hippos and Crocodiles. Overnight Nile Safari Camp or Red Chilli Rest Camp.

 Day 14: Early morning drive to Kampala via Kaniyo Pabidi birding for Puvel’s Illadopsis and a variety of forest birds, transfer to the airport for your flight, end of services.
